The BEST business idea I've had in a while (and it's so old-school) 🧠

Hey, Reader,

I want to tell you about the best business idea I've had in a while — and it's honestly kind of embarrassing how old-school it is.

I asked people what they actually want.

That's it. That's the idea.

A couple weeks ago I sent a survey out to my Home Sweet Homemaker audience. Not a fancy quiz funnel, not an AI-guessed segmentation — an actual "tell me what you think" survey, with real open-ended questions, sent to real people who read my blog and buy my products and let me show up in their inboxes week after week.

Here's the thing I keep coming back to in my own business (and the thing I help my clients build systems around, too): all the funnels and automations in the world don't replace actually talking to the humans on the other end of your list.

Segmentation tools and email tags can tell you what someone clicked. But they can't tell you why they haven't bought yet, or what they wish existed, or that one offhand comment that ends up reshaping your whole content calendar.

That's what direct-to-audience relationship building gets you. And it's why, old-school as it feels, I'll keep doing it.

So — what did I find out?

A few things surprised me.

➡️ The #1 reason people said they hadn't bought from me yet wasn't price. It was "I haven't seen the right thing yet" — named by more than a third of respondents, more than double any other reason.

Meanwhile, most of that same audience has already bought digital products from other small creators. They're not hesitant to buy. They just haven't been shown the right offer, clearly enough, often enough.

That one insight alone is already reshaping how I talk about my products in email.

I pulled the full breakdown — the exact numbers, the pricing sweet spots, the content requests straight from open-ended answers, and the specific action plan I built from it — into a report I'm sharing inside The Calm Business Vault.

If you run a content brand, a shop, or a membership and you've ever wondered whether your audience actually wants what you think they want, this is worth a look.

Inside the Vault you'll also get the full Claude conversations and prompts I used to build the survey, segment my list, and turn 31 messy survey responses into a clear plan — so you can run the exact same process on your own list.

Hey, Content Creators! I saw this quote today, and it made me laugh: “If my boss knew how unproductive I am on Fridays, he wouldn’t want me here either.” —James Johnson I guess I’d have to change it to “if I knew how unproductive I am…” since I’m self-employed and my own boss! 😂 I, however, like working, maybe too much, including Fridays, and have to force myself to not touch official work on the weekends. No client work, no service business related stuff. I’m only allowed to work on my...

Hey, guys, I hope you’re enjoying this beautiful Wednesday—or at least it’s beautiful here in southern Missouri! I’m getting ready to do my 5-minute mid-day trudge up and down our hill of a driveway because that’s my new health goal. (I’m trying to stop being so sleepy in the afternoons!) With the latest round of Google shenanigans, I’ve been skimming conversations across multiple groups, sites, and newsletters. Here is my favorite thought I’ve seen expressed so far, and it is SO my mindset...
